·Jane Roe and Henry Wade: Debate passed sentence January 22nd, 1973·
Roe v. Wade actually reached out to the supreme court in 1970, but the Justices delayed taking action because they felt that the appeals “raised difficult questions on judicial jurisdiction”. Finally they voted to hear the debate and on this day, exactly 43 years ago, with a 7 to 2 majority vote in favor of Roe, the Supreme Court deemed abortion a “fundamental right under the United States constitution”. Thereby subjecting all laws attempting to restrict it to the standard of strict scrutiny.
While acknowledging that the right of abortion was not unlimited, Justice Harry Blackmun, (speaking for the court) made a “framework” for abortions. The reasons: To protect the woman’s health and the “potentiality of human life”. In the first trimester they believed that abortion was safer than child birth. But they admitted that by the third trimester, that the “potential life” would be compelling, and the state could forbid abortions so long as the mother’s life (or health) was not in danger.
Since that day, abortion has become legal in all fifty states, at any time during the pregnancy, and for any (or no) reason. Since 1980 there have been over 1,402,358,843 abortions world wide. As I write this at 12:34 PM, there have been 56,461 abortions in the world just today. There have been over 58,650,523 babies murdered in the womb in the US since 1973.
This should horrify you. Precious little babies who, by six weeks in the womb their heart is beating and their tongue and vocal chords are forming. By eight weeks the baby can move most of his limbs and has earlobes. At twelve weeks, (a little under 3 months) this little, precious, beautiful child, made in the image of God, has his or her own unique set of fingerprints.
The majority of women who have had an abortion say thar the main reason they are having one is, that the child will inhibit their careers/jobs.
I tell you all this because I want you to see where we are as a country and as a people. We value our education, social life, and jobs more highly then we value the amazing, precious and beautiful gifts from God. Little children. God tells us in his word that: “Children are a gift from the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His reward. Like arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has a quiver full of them.” ~Psalm 127: 3-5a~
Are you willing to stand up for the lives of millions of unborn little children? Or are you too scared of how the world will treat you if you do?
